The pacemaker that manages to fool the stomach
A pacemaker that causes gastric stimulation to produce satiety in the obese patient is successful in reducing excess weight. This new device has just landed in Spain.

A team of doctors from the Hospital La Luz in Madrid, has been used for the first time in Spain, an implantable device to treat morbid obesity in two patients. The system, called Abilities (developed by the company IntraPace) combines the proven technology of cardiac pacemakers to cause the patient a feeling of satiety that promotes weight loss.

The device has a system wireless connection (wi-fi) which transmits the information gathered by the sensor which is reflected in detail the patient's food intake. With that information, the physician designs the food and exercise program. This also facilitates the rehabilitation of the patient's nutritional habits.
