diagnostic method

Although most patients with acute coronary syndromes are treated in hospital services (many of them in emergencies), to 85 percent do not receive a correct diagnosis. The observational study was conducted in 14 emergency rooms in nine countries in the Asia-Pacific, patients over 18 years suffering from chest pain for at least five minutes. The accelerated diagnostic protocol (ADP) includes the use of probabilistic scoring method (Method for the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction), electrocardiogram, troponin test as a biomarker, analysis of creatine kinase MB and myoglobin study.

The authors emphasize that an accelerated diagnostic protocol allows two hours early identification of patients at risk of suffering a serious heart problem. The reliability of the method is set at 99 percent.
