Excess Mucus After Ovulation

Sucker Punch: Trailers, Animated Short, Strange Soundtrack and critical reception and Public

Hi folks, today is Friday, March 25 and the United States and other countries of the world has officially released the latest film from Zack Snyder, Sucker Punch, starring a female cast led by Emily Browning.

The story was written by Snyder himself in collaboration with Steve Shibuya, who took uos 5 months to do so. Was conceptualized before Watchmen and its realization, Snyder summon the same computer I use in this movie. Sucker Punch, like Watchmen were shot in Vancouver, Canada.

The story revolves around Baby Doll ( Emily Browning), a girl who is locked in an asylum for years 50 by her evil stepfather and who is about to be lobotomized. With fellow Rocket ( Jena Malone), Blondie ( Vanessa Hudgens), Amber ( Jamie Chung) and Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish ) joins to escape his captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac ), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino ) and the High Roller ( Jon Hamm). According

Snyder himself is a sort of Alice in Wonderland with machine guns. In fact in his interviews always clear that this film is an experiment and its first original work, a mixture of ideas, influences and styles that not even know where I could get. Simply I wanted to do a story that combines all your fetishes as a regular on the pop culture.

originally Another curiosity is that the film would be rated R (Restricted) or for adults and due to pressure of censorship, had to cut a love scene between Browning and Hamm, which upset the actress, and she liked the idea that your character is sexually empowering. Finally the scene was removed and the film got the PG-13.

The movie looks interesting and was marketed in a very attractive first with the trailers, and more recently with a series of animated shorts. Likewise the soundtrack is incredible. Let's review a little progress, because unfortunately in Costa Rica who knows when we can see the movie (I'm afraid that if the ticket is not good, I'll have to get in line).

Trailers
The Sucker Punch
was officially announced at Comic Con 2010 with a video that was subsequently be released on July 27 at Apple Trailers. The video features the songs "Prologue" by Immediate Music and The Crablouse "Lords of Acid. Most of the people was impressed by the premise of an imaginary world that combined several elements of fantasy.

The second trailer is more explicit about the history of film, in which a girl known as Baby Doll and her friends locked in a mental institution, must pass a series of tests in a fantasy world to get 5 items that allow them to escape (a map, knife, fire, locked up and the last item is a mystery) and to support this feature a wise old man. This trailer was released with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and Black Swan on November 3.

animated shorts

Created by animator Ben Comflix Hibon and studies, this series of 4 short animated films is impressive. Snyder Hibon saw the work of the animated sequence of the story of three brothers in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and asked her to create these short films to illustrate the different worlds in the universe of Sucker Punch.
The Trenches: tells the story of German soldiers in World War II are artificially revived and returned to the battlefield. Despite that they are now zombies in them is still a vestige of humanity.

Dragon: An army of men is facing a grotesque orcs who worship a kind of cross with dragon wings. Just as the men begin to overwhelm the orcs, who seek for their faith, are caught and removed by a huge dragon.

Distant Planet: A world divided between rich and poor, the robots decide to revolt against their masters, starting a riot.

Feudal Warriors: Contral by a powerful wizard, an army of demonic samurai roam the world, conquering and destroying temples. When they reach the most important of all faced with Baby Doll and the rest of the girls.

The Soundtrack

The soundtrack of this movie is very good and highly recommended, using mainly covers of several popular songs from artists like The Beatles, Pixies, The Smiths, Eurythmics intepreted by Emily Browning, who worth noting is an excellent voice, along with other artists.

1. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) (Emily Browning)
2. Army Of Me (Sucker Punch Remix) (featuring Skunk Anansie Bjork) 3. White Rabbit (Emiliana Torrini)
4. I Want It All / We Will Rock You (Mash up) (Queen with Geddy aka Armageddon)
5. Search And Destroy (Skunk Anansie)
6. Tomorrow Never Knows (Alison Mosshart and Carla Azar)
7. Where Is My Mind? (Yoav featuring Emily Browning)
8. Asleep (Emily Browning)
9. Love Is The Drug (Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac)

Comments:

It's no lie that I liked Snyder's previous work, mainly comiqueras 300 and Watchmen, and direct this new project caught my attention with flashy trailers. Top it has a very interesting soundtrack and a series of animated shorts that illustrate a little fantasy world where much of the history of film.

But in spite of all these items please apartir yesterday the movie has been criticized and even destroyed by U.S. criticism and a good group of spectators. What I find most curious is that opinions are highly polarized ... those who love it rave reviews for its visual approach and the fact of risk being original, while people who see it negatively, not to say that hated him from blame a bad script and flat characters to be a whirlwind of genres that getting anywhere. You can see the comments in rotten tomatoes.

And in spite of the bad reviews, STILL WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE ... and the truth is not the first time Snyder has drawn criticism as found with their work, as the same happened with 300 and Watchmen. Like these are the same critics who have missed clunkers like Twilight and Transformers and given from regular to some good scores.

What I wonder and I fed the curiosity about this film is that it makes many people feel so uncomfortable. Lives up to its name, is an unexpected blow to the face of the viewer and apparently enough people came out hurt. Seras the dialogues very cliches (not think they are worse than Twilight), very poor performances (examples abound) or just that the movie is so frantic that trip (if endured Transformers, this has to be an impressive level) or is simply of those films that appear at the wrong time and are rejected (I think the bad reviews of Sergio Leone westerns or the master David Fincher Fight Club at the time).

What I can say is that this film seems to be for hardcore pop junk geeks like me. Has Nazis, samurai, dragons, beautiful girls in schoolgirl uniforms and a story behind based on the search for identity. I'm going to like, but could be wrong ... this can only answer honestly watching the movie.

To conclude here I leave a little surprise ...

A look at the history of SKA

Taking some time to gather information, something that I've always been attracted, it is the SKA. A type of musical genre as interesting as the same Metal or Punk, so for a change today I give you a summary that tries to tell you how was the process leading birth to this entertaining genre.

:: HISTORY OF SKA::

First, ubiquémonos in Jamaica in the particular moment in history that created this rhythm.

After World War II the British Empire is in a particularly difficult situation. That's why this is forced to emancipate their colonies. And Jamaica by 1962 as an independent country start seeing a new optimism reflected in their culture and music from the newly liberated masses.

This optimism is characterized by the birth of a great number of bands adopted and adapted many musical styles from the United States.

Even before being declared an independent state, bands like Eric Deans Orchestra (with trombonist Don Drummond and guitarist Ernest Ranglin on the front line) based their music in the styles of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller and Woody Herman. However

U.S. big bands were being replaced by a slightly smaller formations, oriented blues.Mas this new fashion week comes to Jamaica and is adapted by SOUND SYSTEMS Sir Nick the Champ, the Blues Blaster, among others. By 1950

Jazz, Rhythm and Blue s and mind are fused by the bands of the time to shape a new style of music called "Shuffle." (The shuffle is becoming very popular thanks to bands like the Overtakers, Neville Esson and the Matador Allstars). Thanks to this new rhythm that gives rise both in the birth of recording studios and companies in the search for new talent to fill the needs of growing public.

Duke "the Trojan" Reid and Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd and VINCET "King" Edwards were instrumental in the evolution of Jamaican Sound System 1950.

Note the importance of the contribution given by the China-Jamaican community, which go great producers associated with the owners of the Sound Systems. Some of the most important were: Lessius Kong, Byron Lee, Charlie Moo and certainly the most prolific of all Vincent "Randy" Chin.

Another important character was Cecil Campbell, later known as Prince Buste r , who was the first to envision and realize the need for a new style. Thus, as recommended by their guitarist (Jah Jerry) emphasize overtime, that is not on the beat or rhythmic beat, but after this. Thus was born the Ska. The Sound Systems

start recording his own songs to gain competitive advantage from them. The sound system war escalated to the point of sending saboteurs by the power to ruin the holidays. These saboteurs were known as "Dance Hall Crashers."

Despite the poor quality of the recordings of ska this time, fans of the rhythm take you to a point of high popularity. The ska is recognized as a dance and music of Jamaica NATIONAL . Noteworthy

"data rossa" the Ska as such made its world debut and international World's Fair in New York, 1964, in the flag of Jamaica. It was a great success. Ahi

were several issues of the time bands (Byron Lee and The Dragonaires, Prince Buster and Jimmy Cliff) had a big dance show where Ronnie Nasralla and Jannette Phillips eskeleto taught to move with this contagious rhythm.

: THE RUDE BOYS:

During the 60's (1964-1967), in the ghettos of Jamaica lived a generation of young people who had not had the opportunity to experience the new optimism for independence, this due to his bad economic situation and lack of employment.

These young people coming out of the Jamaican working class and marginalized by the system are beginning to identify themselves as RUDE BOYS. (Being a Rude Boy at that time meant, somehow, be "somebody" when the company told them they were not "one"). Ska at the time the music was trendy and the same Rudies adopt this style of music as their own. As the main theme of the songs that come out between '64 and '67.

The way the Rude Boys danced the ska was different as well: They did it more slowly and with an imposing stance. The Rude Boys connect with people who lived outside the law (scofflaws) and this was reflected in his music, his lyrics and the way they dress. Much like any gangster or criminal .

many gangs are formed Rudeboys with serious attitude problems. Turning the streets into real guerrillas. The contact was between Rude and scofflaws movement originated an enormous facility for the Rude Boy of acquiring a weapon and that enhanced the violence and fighting between gangs at that time.

Many young people who came to Kingston in search of fame and money only bumped with a life of crime and violence when they ran out money.

(The movie reflects this, with greater accuracy is Perry film Hanzel "THE HARDER THEY COME" starring Jimmy Cliff starring the anti-hero 'Ivanhoe Martin Rhygin')

ska music changes from this, will reflect the sentiments of the Rudies more stress on the low, unlike the previous style, which was a little more light and free. During this period the rude boys became the center of attention.

Public opinion was strongly against them and against weapons. He passed a law under which any person in possession of weapons or ammunition would be detained indefinitely.

This, of course, influenced the ska as artists and producers of this time supporting the actions of the rude boys.

Songs like " Lawless Street" of Soul Brothers and "Gunmen coming to town" group The Heptones reflected the influence of anti-gun movement, many other bands joined it but a policy against fighting between gangs of Rude Boys. Clement Dodd

support, especially at this time, a gang of youths that self-proclaimed rude boys the Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer).

The ska and rude boys were the subject of importance to the late 60's when the ska is replaced by the ROCK STEADY . (This is then replaced by the REGGAE , and east by the DUB and then east by the DANCE HALL, etc).

This moment marks the end of the first era of ska and the beginning of the second was ... Rude Boy where it would take a completely different tone than that of the legendary Jamaican Rudies.

: SECOND GENERATION (TWO-TONE):

The second era began in England in early 70's when the ideals of the Rudies are revived by punk bands like The Clash . Bands such as The Coventry Automatics begin to reuse the foundation of ska to make music. This band would become a symbol of the time when then changed the name to The Automatics, then The Specials AKA the Automatics, then The Specials AKA only and last THE SPECIALS.

A late 60's began the explosion Rocksteady-Reggae and songs like "My Boy Lollypop" by Millie Small (one of the first successes in the UK) and issues and Laurel Aitken Desmond Dekker began to sound in the English radio.

RUDEBOYS The Jamaican immigration Skinhead movement created by merging with the Hard-Mods at the time.

born Simaryp bands like (legendary skinhead reggae band), the Boot Boys (start of current Hooligans), Redskins, Northern Soul and reggae explosion in the late 60's.

In the decade of the ' 70 a former skinhead named Jerry Dammers decided to create a movement to revive ska with new codes and ideologies. Thus was born in the city of Coventry 2tone seal, The Specials, The Selecter Rudeboy and thinking much more rebellious (and definitely less violent) from Jamaica that the fighting against the growing racism and fascism that tried to impose the National Front and other right-wing organizations of that era with a points much more social (as in the song "Why", "Rudeboys out of jail", "Racist Friend" and "Free Nelson Mandela" where racism is openly criticized and talk about this new trend Rudie).

The 2-tone (black and white) represented an attempt at racial unity in a time full of hate and intolerance. Walt Jabsco, the 2Tone label logo (drawing based on a photograph of Peter Tosh when he played in the Wailers) wore a black dress suit with white shirt, sunglasses, hat, white socks and a thin black tie. Adopted the fashionable wave of new Rudeboys and Rudegirls as a way to show your union ideal racial (white and black in white and black).

born several bands, which came from Coventry were called themselves The Specials, The Selecter and The Swinging Cats. The London became Madness, The Bodysnatchers, the Birningham and The Beat. But while the 2Tone label bands were the most popular, were not the only, there were also The Tigers, Ska City Rockers, The Employees and many others. For these times

trombonist Rico Rodriguez, a student of the late (under difficult circumstances) ex-member of the Skatalites and one more loss Pulentos composers of the first era of ska, Don Drummond, is back in time and involved either with the Specials or continuing his career as soloist. (The one that started in Jamaica in the 60's).

Rico is just one of several artists of the first generation that returns to this season and joins the 2Tone bands.

The purpose of this era is the fall of the 2Tone label, Dammers was broke and in debt to the Chrisalys (record label that was sponsoring 2Tone) The popularity of these bands lasted about six years but would mark the influence of music in the future.

can rescue the two-tone was the rebirth of rudeboy as a cheerful, funny, rebellious and always ready to enjoy a dance or a good beer. Much less violent than the original Jamaica but with the struggle against the system to the surface.

Lyrics of the songs and ideological thoughts at this time took a leading role (perhaps heavily influenced by punk and skinhead current) that define the current ska from that point forward.

:: Third Generation (Third Wave)::

The third time or Third Wave is that we are experiencing at this time. bands like The Toasters, Bim Skala Bim and Fishbone c OMMENCEMENT to revive again the roots of this music at the beginning of this era. Here in Latin America we can see bands like or Public Disorder in Venezuela or Los Fabulosos Cadillac s in Argentina taking the same initiative and influencing more bands to do the same.

new mergers are also coming, ska combined with almost anything. born ska-core, ska, metal, ska-punk, ska, funk, etc . Bands begin to merge multiple birth rates or "Global Rhythm" as Mano Negra. In Spain are the independent band Kortatu that despite his fame never signed a major label (which I consider laudable.)

exist in the whole world as a traditional ska bands Hepcat , Don Khumalo, The Slackers, Skatalà and Dr Calypso.

The strong influence of Latin rhythms in the ska allows for what I believe is a world of opportunity called latin ska or ska.

The rude boy image remains that originated in the era 2tone, not as a "bandit" but as a fan ska, with knowledge about the roots of it and with all anti-racist ideals and revolutionary that have always characterized the music.

This time gives room for the birth of cultural groups as SHARP (Skinheads Against Racial prejudice or Skinheads against racial prejudice) , the striaght edgers, etc. All enjoying the same pace seen at this time as a "world beat."

So in these times has taken a key Ska music union. Bringing together many genres under one dance, one vibration and a common struggle against the system. Regardless of race, religion, social status, preference sexual, etc.

This particular song I chose the letter expressing the need for people to express themselves and that is part of the values \u200b\u200bof Ska .

any testimony by 24 March is an ethical imperative; date at which there is no indifference, poses an additional problem: what else to say, what again, say to 35 different years into the horror ? And many colleagues have written very good about it, does not seem possible to avoid repetition. What, then?
Then I remembered something written in April last year, who wanted to be a kind of praise from our Plaza de Mayo, that calls us and receive us, among other occasions, each March 24. And it seemed relevant and appropriate to re-publish it as is, although the date had not yet resulted in the death of Nestor Kirchner, who had the temple, because it reflects, for me, the spirit of the Plaza at which even today I I have never gone.

Alterations in three genes, linked to the development of preeclampsia
A team of researchers from the University of Washington, United States, has identified genetic alterations in autoimmune diseases that increase the risk of preeclampsia, a circumstance that occurs in 10 percent of births.

DM - Wednesday March 23, 2011 - Updated at 00:00 pm

The team of John P. Atkinson has also located these mutations in women with preeclampsia who do not have underlying autoimmune diseases.

As published in the latest issue of PLoS Medicine, these findings provide genetic targets for the arrival of new treatments, and suggest that screening could eventually identify women at risk. The work has been performed with groups from the Universities of Newcastle (England) and Utah (United States) and the Georges Pompidou Hospital, Paris (France). Mutations

Researchers studied 250 pregnant women affected lupus and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. 30 percent developed preeclampsia during the study, while another 10 percent, which also developed the disease and had suffered in previous pregnancies.

In these forty women were studied three genes related to immune response against infections (MCP, factor I and factor H). Seven of the women had abnormalities in at least one of these genes. Atkinson has focused on these three genes and their association with a rare hemolytic uremic syndrome.

A new large scale work for the School of Public Health Harvard (Cambridge) and Brigham Women's Hospital (Boston), both in Massachusetts (USA), has ruled that exposure to high levels of mercury are associated with the risk of coronary artery disease, stroke or cardiovascular disease. The results have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Writing - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - Updated at 22:00

The researchers analyzed data from two studies: Monitoring Health Professionals, who worked with 51,529 men, and the BWH-based Nurses' Health, with 121,700 women screened. Participants in both projects completed questionnaires biennially from 1986 and 1976, respectively, about their medical history, risk factors, the incidence of diseases and lifestyle.

The team measured mercury concentrations in samples of the nails of his big toe in 7,000 participants, some of whom had suffered a cardiovascular event during follow-up. We identified 3,427 new cases of coronary heart disease and stroke.

In 20 percent greater risk, the average accumulation of mercury was 0.7 micrograms per gram. In 10 percent greater risk was of a microgram per gram.

After adjusting for age, gender and other cardiovascular risk factors, they rejected any association between the mineral and the risk of such diseases. He even received a lower risk associated with high amounts of mercury, attributable, according to the authors, the beneficial effects of fish.
Nor was there evidence of negative effects due to fish consumption and the level of selenium, whether in a high or low.

Dalteparin no better than unfractionated heparin in DVT
critical study published today The New England Journal of Medicine showed that dalteparin is no better than unfractionated heparin to reduce the incidence of proximal deep vein thrombosis in patients admitted to intensive care units. The rate of bleeding, mortality and hospital admission is similar.

Writing - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - Updated at 00:00 pm

In critically ill patients, dalteparin is not superior to unfractionated heparin in reducing the incidence of proximal deep vein thrombosis, a study has advanced the publication The New England Journal of Medicine.

Protect The study, coordinated by Deborah Cook, McMaster University, Canada, is designed to assess the superiority of dalteparin over unfractionated heparin. Were selected randomly to receive dalteparin 3,764 patients at a dose of 5,000 IU once daily plus placebo or unfractionated heparin at a dose of 5,000 IU twice daily throughout their stay in the ICU.

The primary endpoint was thrombosis proximal DVT was diagnosed by ecosonography that took place two days after admission, twice a week and when it was indicated by the clinic. The data were analyzed according to intention to treat principle.

The proportion of patients with pulmonary embolism was lower in the dalteparin group compared with unfractionated heparin

There were no significant differences between the two groups in the rate of proximal deep vein thrombosis, which originated in 96 of 1,873 patients receiving dalteparin compared to 109 of the 1,873 in the group receiving unfractionated heparin.

The proportion of patients pulmonary embolism was significantly lower in the dalteparin group when compared with unfractionated heparin.

There were also no differences in bleeding rates or mortality during hospitalization.

In prespecified analysis for the protocols, the results were similar to the main analysis, but a group of patients who received dalteparin had heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.

. Measuring the number of circulating tumor cells may also help decide the most appropriate treatment and monitor response.

Cancer Scientists at Christie Hospital in Manchester (United Kingdom) ensure that the tumor cell count in patients with lung cancer can help determine the severity of the disease and decide the best treatment for each case.

This follows a study published in the latest issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, in which has counted the number of circulating tumor cells (CTC) in blood samples from a total of 101 lung cancer patients, taken before and after undergoing a course of chemotherapy.

Thus, they found that those with more than 5 CTCs in 7.5 ml of blood showed an overall survival of 4.3 months on average, about data "significantly worse" than those who had less than 5 CTC whose median survival was 8.1 months.

The results suggest that the counting of CTC could be an easy way to find out how a patient is responding to treatment within weeks of launch.

"Now we have to test this finding in more patients, but if the results are confirmed, it is possible to tailor treatments to individual patients and to find new ways to treat disease, "said Fiona Blackhall, author of the study.

The smile of the child should be a more in HC - DiarioMedico.com

's smile child must be a more in HC
The smile is a sign of health in children during their development to the point that the doctor must observe and ask if the patient smiles and includes information on clinical history (HC) as Lozano and Jose Maria Agustin Rollán, pediatricians Cantabrian Service. Santiago

Rego. Santander - Wednesday March 23, 2011 - Updated at 00:00 pm

Lozano and Jose Maria Agustin Rollán, pediatricians Cantabria Health System. (Roberto Ruiz)

A smile is a sign and even a sign of health in children. In general, a healthy child who smiles at his parents and, besides, also a pediatrician "is not very sick or healthy in a high percentage of cases", as explained Rollán Augustine, pediatrician Cantabria Health Service (SCS) who participated in the XXIX Course in Primary Care Pediatrics, University of Cantabria, with the conference ramblings about the smile.

The specialist, who has seized numerous references by authors such as Darwin, Laetoli, Ekman, Spin and Morris, Gesell, Piaget, and Wort, among others, has made it clear with an ultrasound of a baby of 30 weeks it smiles and inside the mother without anyone ever taught. "Studies show that the reaction of the child to smile at certain stimuli is automatic, not learned through a relationship with the surrounding environment, but is innate."

Rollán has likewise the example of a premature infant in a photograph that shows "that there is no smile. Clearly there is the gesture of suffering baby that, like the smile, not learned, but, as Darwin described, are innate and universal expressions which are neither bought, nor cultural, nor inherited. "

on children with autism has stressed that the pediatrician is necessary to "look more value than the smile, as the patient with this condition do not laugh, sometimes even in response to the smile of the mother. We face a complex patient who requires special stimuli in the clinical and social. "

Three recurring questions that must be done in consultation with the child: What about your appetite? What about sleep? And How about a smile?

For Maria Jose Lozano, a pediatrician at the Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla, associate professor at the University of Cantabria and course director, it is always important for the adult to respond with kind words and caresses to the smile of the child. "It creates a good relationship between parents and children, and smiling he discovers that gets results. There is no doubt that the smile is a factor to be included in the medical record," he said.

What to watch?

Lozano noted that pediatricians handled observational data with scales of a child with acute, in which, besides the quality of tears, the variation of her condition, color and hydration also include the so-called "response to social interaction, where one of the items used by the pediatrician is to ask your parents and see if the little he smiles and if your smile is short or no smiles and its expression is anxious, dull or inexpressive, "he detailed.

According to the specialist, while observing the pediatrician must be guided both by the clinic as the child's development. "Clinical data are essential in any process, but sometimes we should not forget things like" smile as she examined the child and interact with it? "He smiles when the doctor comes to visit him in hospital room? ".

In the second week of life, the newborn's smile expressed the welfare state for the satisfaction of their basic needs

In fact, he explained Rollán, there are three recurring questions: How about your appetite? What sleep? and How about the smile? ". The two specialists have agreed that the child uses the tears and smile to survive, and that about the second week of life, the newborn's smile expressed the welfare state for the satisfaction of their basic needs. And it's the fifth or sixth week, when he starts to smile at a series of external stimuli, such as Mom's voice, sound, or the face of someone who approached him, but whenever the front and not in profile. First laughs

After three months, appear the first laugh out loud, by the fifth month of life, the child begins to differentiate between a familiar face and a strange face, and the eighth month denied smile people do not know. However, as pointed out roll, "the first manifestation of active behavior, directed and intentional child is when he recognizes his mother's smile in around 45 days old, according to numerous studies."

Four researchers from the UB IR3C, Joan López Moliner, Escera Carles, Maria Mataro and Juan Gomez.

generate knowledge to benefit society in general and healthcare in particular is the objective of the Research Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (IR3C), University of Barcelona ( UB), born with the desire to know and understand better how determine brain processes cognitive functions (perception, memory, learning, reasoning and problem solving, language, communication and emotion) and possible behavior of human beings can adapt to the environment and transform it with his performance. "This has been divided into three lines of research: brain, cognition and behavior," said Carles Escera, Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology at the UB and director of the new institute. The research teams are multidisciplinary, and that the spirit of the new body is the study of human behavior from a holistic view. Apart from psychologists, neurologists and psychiatrists, "there are mostly engineers and physicists, especially involved in the development of quantitative models as perceptual or learning curves," said Escera.

Juana Gomez, a psychologist and head of the line of conduct, explained, meanwhile, that "one of our major projects is SCIP, a test of cognitive and attentional dysfunction in schizophrenia, which allows an assessment of cognitive impairment in fifteen minutes and it is being used in about forty hospitals throughout Spain. "

The aim of the course of action is the identification, assessment and intervention in behavioral problems. Therefore, another major projects related to hyperactivity and attention deficit. "We are validating U.S. instruments that measure these conditions to suit our environment," the expert pointed.

is clear that psychiatrists, neurologists and psychologists can benefit from the research institute of the UB, "but some are also valid for other specialists, the SCIP project, for example, used to measure the quality of life for all patients with physical or mental disorder. "

XXI Century Challenge

The study of the brain, the biological basis of normal and pathological behavior, is a major first Century. Maria Mataró, PhD in Psychology and Neuropsychology specialist, researcher at the Brain line, said that "we study the brain function with neuroimaging, cognitive testing and genetic testing." The institute works in close collaboration with hospitals and health centers. In this way, can provide useful scientific knowledge in the field of mental health. "We are studying how they affect vascular disease and cognition, what is the relationship between obesity and cognition and the relationship between biological rhythms and personality," according Mataró. Another area being investigated is the of children with learning difficulties, dyslexia or dyscalculia.

The third line of research focuses on the study of the psychological mechanisms underlying the adaptive behaviors, such as perception, language and memory. "Although we do basic research, some of our projects may be of interest to healthcare professionals," said Joan López-Moliner, Doctor of Science from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and coordinator of Cognition. "For example, we investigate how the processing of sensory information can coordinate motor activity, which can be very useful in the rehabilitation of degenerative disorders." Another line of research highlights is that of Aging, focused on the study of preterm infants and neonatal care and in improving the quality of life in the elderly.

The vocation of the new Institute of UB is to establish synergies with other research centers and hospitals. As stated Escera, "forms of collaboration can range from research projects of common interest to the organization of scientific conferences and monographic co supervision of doctoral theses. In addition, our school has provided, in conjunction with the Park of St. John Health God in San Boi de Llobregat, including several on Relief mental health, a predoctoral fellowship to a graduate student to carry out his thesis co-directed by a researcher at the center and one of IR3C.

A virtual laboratory for experimenting

Virtual reality allows test treatments that would be very costly practice. The Research Institute of Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (IR3C), University of Barcelona (UB) has a specific laboratory is a room whose walls are projection screens and where patient wears a series of sensors that measure the direction of his gaze and movements. Thus, the individual may face, in a very controlled situations in their natural environment could be hazardous to your health. As explained Escera Carles, director of IR3C, "we are studying how the virtual reality therapy to fight fear of public speaking, agoraphobia or chronic pain, and investigate how it turns the process of believing the virtual environment" .

" One of the keys to the North Karelia Project was liaise with media "
The Finnish province North Karelia in the 70's was named one of the projects most important public health, a multidisciplinary community intervention able to reduce cardiovascular mortality in the area. For the first time, his players had discussed the weight that communication messages and media relations for the success of the initiative.

Alain Ochoa - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - Updated at 18:09 pm

Pekka Puska, Vice President, International Association of National Public Health Institutes - IANPHI. (International Association of National Public Health Institutes - IANPHI)

The famous North Karelia project is a major public health community interventions ever made. Started in the 70's, the project succeeded in reducing cardiovascular mortality alarming North Karelia (Finland) to get the habits of the population. In fact, the mortality rate of cardiovascular events fell by 73 percent between 1969 and 1995. Consequently, general health and welfare of the inhabitants increased.

The first issue of the new 'Journal of Communication and Health "features an article that discusses this great action from a different angle: is the first text in which the protagonists of public health strategy that the value from the point of view of how communication worked. 'Communication strategies in improving cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular diseases in the North Karelia Project' is signed by Noel C. Barengo (Foundation for the Prevention and Control of Chronic Diseases in Latin America), Jaakko O. Tuomilehto (University of Helsinki, Finland), Pekka Puska Aulikki Nissinen and (both the National Institute of Health and Welfare in Finland).

The project included several activities to promote health, medical services involvement and activity communication which led to the publication of 1,509 local news media between 1972 and 1977 (three times more than in the control area, the nearby province of Kuopio) and the issuance of a hit TV show in 1978. However, Barengo emphasizes that it is not possible to measure separately the impact of the media in achieving health goals, "because its effect can not be separated from that of other multiple activities in parallel."

Thus, the strategy also used a lot of doctor-patient interpersonal communication and persuasion of 800 opinion leaders as a way to accelerate the dissemination of positive messages. Also, Nissinen stressed that it was the science team who passed these leaders what the message was adequate for the health of the population, without specific trainers intervene communication area.

Media and people
The authors explain in the article why the use of opinion leaders to the community: "First of all, new ideas come from the media, and are then transmitted by opinion leaders after some modifications. So most people are influenced by contacts with the leaders who promote or block the innovation-diffusion process. "

"One of the approaches used in the theoretical framework was the use of emotions in persuasion, which is based on finding an emotional association rather than rational arguments, the article states. There was a conscious effort by the project for people to project objectives associated with the identity and pride of the province. " Tuomilehto

recalls that there were other communication specialists involved in that facet of the project: namely, helped design how to convince the population. "They had an important role in translating scientific research results in messages that the public could understand." Thus, for example, changes in food are discussed attacking the false myth that the traditional local diet was rich in fat, and recovering the memory of healthier dishes. Puska

stresses that a key to the project was to maintain close contact with the media, especially radio and newspapers. Each new event related to the project dealt with the press. "

CARDIOLOGY 51% of people with atrial fibrillation are not aware of your risk of stroke

Carla Nieto · March 23, 2011 10:45

. Filings Survey results SPEAK, most conducted on this disease, which has had the participation of 3,700 respondents in different countries.

More than half of those diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AF) are unaware they have a high risk of experiencing a stroke, a process that is five times more common in these patients. This is the main finding in the survey dropped SPEAK about AF (Education, Awareness and Knowledge of Stroke Prevention), the largest conducted so far on this disease. It involved 3,700 people from different countries, including Spain, and had as main objective to identify the aspects that should improve information and education about the risk of stroke related to AF.

As explained by Dr. Ariel Cohen, the Sainte-Antoine Hospital in Paris, "atrial fibrillation, the heart rhythm disturbance common among the population, affecting 9 million people around the world and it looks that this figure will increase significantly in the coming years. Likewise, it is estimated that every year 3 million people suffer a stroke related to this disease, which means that a patient every 12 seconds is affected by this type of stroke. " Dr. Cohen explained that the AF-related stroke has characteristics that make it different, "is more severe, more disabling and also implies a higher mortality than those caused by other causes, hence the importance of patients with atrial fibrillation are properly aware of this risk and subject to medication to control it. "

Meanwhile, Trudie Lobban, representative of the AFA (Association of Atrial Fibrillation), discussed other findings from the survey: "One of the most striking is the impact FA negative on the lives of people who suffer: 64% confessed to having less active and 55% of patients defined the disease as a tremendous burden they have to endure. Also noteworthy is the ignorance that many patients have AF and its consequences: for example, 41% of respondents said they do not feel adequately informed about the risk of suffering a stroke that involves atrial fibrillation. "

The presentation was also presented the campaign "1 Mission, 1 Million. Direct Stroke Heart, "which will take place worldwide, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim and that Spain supported English Society of Cardiology, the Study Group Cerebrovascular Disease of the English Society of Neurology and the English Federation of anticoagulated patients. This is a pioneering initiative which aims to raise awareness about the AF and stroke prevention. "The final purpose of this project is to achieve early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This campaign was launched in August 2010 with the presentation of various projects by health professionals and organizations around the world. We currently have a total of 184 projects from 36 countries. Voting is now open to the public through www.alcorazondelictus.com website, and these votes, to be completed in June, will the winners of 32 awards for a total of one million euros, "said Eve Knight, director of AntiCoagulation Europe (ACE).

The event was also attended by actress Jane Seymour, very involved in raising awareness of the relationship between atrial fibrillation and stroke, who had the experience with his mother, who died because of this disease, and insisted the need to undergo the necessary checks to diagnose this disease early.

The use of contrast in ERA, radio and in the approach alcoholization hepatocellular carcinoma and therapeutic endoscopy have been some of the topics discussed at an international symposium held on digestive ultrasonography in the Hospital La Paz, Madrid.

, Garre and Mora, in one of the corridors of the Hospital La Paz. ()

Hospital La Paz has celebrated the 25th anniversary of his course on digestive ultrasonography and, to commemorate the silver anniversary, organized an international symposium to discuss the current status and the significant growth in this area. The aim was to address the "topical issues, cutting edge, and basic to catch up in a rapidly changing field," as pointed Carmen Garre, president of the scientific committee of the English Association of Digestive Ultrasonography (EYES), who highlighted the presence of Marc Giovannini, Institute Paoli-Calmettes in Marseille, France. Giovannini

is one of the few authors who have published relevant on the use of contrasts in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as explained by Peter Mora, La Paz and one of the organizers, together with José María Segura " The contrasts can differentiate whether the IBD is also the inflammatory component of acute outbreaks, symptoms fibrotic. The distinction is simple, as the area that is fibrotic is not vascularized and not filled contrast, the very opposite of the mucosa, which itself is full when there is edema and inflammation.

alcoholization Radiofrequency and techniques are complementary and can be combined in the resection of hepatocellular

Thus, the contrasts aid in the diagnosis of IBD, but also the patient's treatment: "If there is no inflammatory component and yes stenosis, may have to think about drying the stenotic area. If the area has inflammatory properties should go to drug treatment to reduce inflammation. " Percutaneous ablation

Garre referred to the use radio frequency and local therapies alcoholization as primitive liver tumors, mainly in cases of hepatocellular carcinoma: "This is local with metastasized tumors very late, and curative treatment. But what is the cancer cure, not the liver itself , already affected by tumor, it may recur liver tumors in other regions. "

To prevent these relapses compromise the patient's life, every three months a review ultrasound to detect when its size is still very small. That's when the radio or alcoholization (radiofrequency catheter ablation in both cases) "achieve 90 percent complete necrosis of tumors.

Hepatocarcinoma doubles in size in a time of three to six months. If detected early, it is possible to necrosis, which is a great advantage if the patient spends several months in list waiting for a transplant.

The specialist, who belongs to the Hospital Virgen de La Arrixaca, Murcia, believes that the radio frequency techniques alcoholization are different, even complementary, sometimes used in combination. Supports the invasiveness of both although specific radio frequency that can bring more complications. To his credit, Mora notes that "are very selective and specific, because it just click on the node." His use depends in part on the location of the tumor, since, for example, if vessels are nearby, the heat can damage nearby structures. In this sense, Garrett adds that, although both provide very good results, must take into account the particular situation: "For example, if the location is the caudate lobe never opt for the Radio Frequency alcoholization always." Progress
percutaneous

As explained Garre and Mora, whose opinion was joined José Just, president of the EYES, therapeutic EUS is clearly the future: "For every day percutaneous detect more things. With EUS it goes further and therapeutic level with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and other techniques, the development will be very important in the short term. "

According to Just," based interventional endoscopic ultrasound is a very interesting union . EUS is indicated to work on those areas where ultrasound difficult to reach, especially in the biliary intervention. In the study punctures and lesions in the pancreatobiliary area is where more and better instruction can be. "Prosthetics and their drains are other application areas. According to Mora," and pancreatic drainage are almost always by endoscopic ultrasonography.

A complex learning

The EUS is a complex technique that requires knowledge of both endoscopy and ultrasound. As explained specialists, as happens with ERCP, is a time for learning and "can do less exploration, because in a week can only be 3 or 4, when, for example, it is possible to carry out 14 or 15 grastroscopias. With EUS, unlike other techniques, learning proceeds slowly because "there is so much volume of disease and hardship."

SPAIN AFTER grown in the laboratory, was grafted onto mice with no germs
intestinal microbiota is personal, but 'transferable'
intestinal microbiota can be grown in the laboratory and because it is unique to each individual could be helpful to establish common features of a type of diet or illness. It has also been shown to be transferred to another intestinal tract.

Writing - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - Updated at 00:00 pm

The laboratory of Jeffrey I. Gordon, in the Science Center Genomic and Systems Biology at Washington University in St. Louis, has shown that you can manipulate the intestinal microbiota in each subject in order to improve certain diseases. The research, published in the online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, provides the basis for identifying microorganisms that, when grafted onto the intestinal flora of an individual, could benefit the community of microorganisms sick.

After years of research have been able to culture bacteria from the organism in the laboratory, but until this work had not been able to determine whether the collection of organisms caught in a Petri dish was just which populated the gut. "There are many types of bacteria in different parts of the human body and also differ between one person and another," said Gordon, whose team has finally achieved using the latest DNA sequencing technologies.

From the samples of two unrelated individuals, the scientists identified a gene present in all organisms. This gene acts as a kind of common barcode an entire microbial community. Thus, each subject found that accounted for a specific collection of microorganisms, grown in the laboratory. Scientists transplanted

microbial collections, some cultivated and others not in the intestinal tracts of germ-free mice. The library adopted the grafted animals and mimicked the donated microbiota.

By studying in detail the mice, it was found that communities of microbes from the same human donor behaved similarly when the animal changed the diet to use (based on vegetables) to the typical Western diet (rich in fat and carbohydrates). The changes were identical, whether the samples had been grown or not.

According to Gordon, this work is the first step toward obtaining custom collection of gut microbes in response diets or diseases.
(PNAS DOI: 10.1073 / pnas.1102938108). Jeffrey I.

Gordon Gordon's group, common in scientific journals, was the first to establish the possible relationship between obesity and other eating disorders and the microbiota that inhabit the human gut. Another of his most famous family revealed a common nexus of intestinal microbial community (see DM of 1-XII-2008).

BILLION PEOPLE

In the gut of every human being lives a unique collection of trillions of microbes that help digest what you eat. The normal thing is to maintain a healthy symbiotic relationship with these small residents, although there are concerns about deterioration in the microbiota may have some influence on the emergence of obesity, malnutrition, Crohn's disease and other disorders. Works such as Jeffrey I. Gordon come to answer the question of how this relationship influences the disease and, more specifically, to what extent the nutritional status of an individual can refer to their gut microbes. These inquiries are raised with the goal on the horizon, to develop therapeutic interventions based on manipulation of the microbiota.

The pacemaker that manages to fool the stomach
A pacemaker that causes gastric stimulation to produce satiety in the obese patient is successful in reducing excess weight. This new device has just landed in Spain.

A team of doctors from the Hospital La Luz in Madrid, has been used for the first time in Spain, an implantable device to treat morbid obesity in two patients. The system, called Abilities (developed by the company IntraPace) combines the proven technology of cardiac pacemakers to cause the patient a feeling of satiety that promotes weight loss.

Manuel Miranda, head of the Unit for Bariatric Surgery Clinic La Luz, which conducted the intervention, with Carlos Duran, of that unit, explains that "through laparoscopic surgery to the stomach access to implement a cable that connects an electrode and a sensor to detect food to eating or drinking, the sensor sends food intake and low energy electrical impulses to the electrode stimulation, located in the stomach wall, causing the patient to undergo an early relaxation of the stomach, and thus feel satiated and stop eating. "

The device is implanted by laparoscopic surgery without altering the morphology of the stomach and with an almost non-existent risk of complications

The main indications for this novel treatment with just two years of operation coincide in principle with other techniques of bariatric surgery: body mass index above 35 or close to this figure but accompanied by substantial morbidity.

After gastric pacemaker implantation, medical supervision is needed to adjust the stimulation in each patient. Manuel Serrano, head of the Unit of Internal Medina, La Luz, clarifies that "the response to stimuli is different in each patient, so we have to regulate it ourselves." The device has a system wireless connection (wi-fi) which transmits the information gathered by the sensor which is reflected in detail the patient's food intake. With that information, the physician designs the food and exercise program. This also facilitates the rehabilitation of the patient's nutritional habits.

In the largest series of patients studied in Germany, has reported an 35% reduction of excess weight after one year
Abilities
The experience is still short. Most cases are accumulated in Germany, where they have already placed hundreds of these devices. Clinical studies indicate the year of implant a reduction of between 35 and 40 percent of excess weight. The pacemaker battery lasts about five years, so after this period is required reoperation. In terms of cost, is estimated to not exceed that of bariatric surgery.

as underlined by the medical team of the Light, the main advantage of gastric pacing in front of bariatric surgery techniques to use is that it does not change the morphology of the stomach. View believes that "every patient has indicated a technique, but this is a great alternative to far outweigh the indications and results of the gastric band and the ball." According to Duran, Is less invasive than gastric banding and like the ball. " On the gastric band, doctors have suggested that the main complication is that is associated with a lower quality of life, to the point that in the series studied more than 40 percent of patients with this device requests its withdrawal. The possibility that the gastric pacemaker is used in these patients repentant or those who received a gastric balloon is not ruled out a priori.

Melatonin may help prevent Parkinson
JANO.es · March 23, 2011 12:08

. Scientists from Granada have found in mice than other similar substances, which act as specific antagonists of nNOS and iNOS isoforms also have an important protective role against oxidative damage and inflammatory. Scientists

Biomedical Research Center (CIBM), University of Granada have found, using a mouse study, the consumption of melatonin, natural molecule synthesized by virtually all living things, can help prevent the onset Parkinson's, and that is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

This work also confirmed that other substances similar to melatonin, which act as specific antagonists of nNOS and iNOS isoforms also have an important protective role against oxidative damage and inflammatory as well as against the recovery of complex I activity, the inhibition is a fundamental pathophysiological event in the development of Parkinson's.

According to officials of labor, these data may be to design new drugs that help prevent disease. In fact, even today the cause is unknown primary dopaminergic degeneration in Parkinson's disease, with existing treatments for type mainly symptomatic.

This Research has now tried to explain the role of nitric oxide (NO) in oxidative stress, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in the origin of this disease in a mouse model treated with a toxin that mimics the biochemical and symptoms of disease even in humans (called MPTP).

As the researchers note, the neuroprotective drug development has slowed due to the limited knowledge of the actual mechanisms by which dopaminergic neurons die.

Thus, if melatonin treatment significantly reduced the activity of the iNOS / i-mtNOS (cytosolic and mitochondrial), decreasing Mitochondrial oxidative damage, the search of synthetic compounds similar to melatonin could provide new pharmacological tools with greater selectivity for inhibiting iNOS / i-mtNOS, and capable of being used in the clinic.

Parkinson's disease is a 40% reduction in the activity of complex I of the electron transport chain in the substantia nigra of these patients, with a loss of between 70 and 80% of the neurons located in this tissue before symptoms appear.

In mice treated with MPTP for this study, the activity of complex I is reduced by 65% \u200b\u200bin the substantia nigra, and treatment with melatonin or its structural analogues counteract this reduction, normalizing mitochondrial function.

has also been shown that excess nitric oxide in the substantia nigra, following MPTP administration is due to increased iNOS activity and i-mtNOS by 250%, while the constitutive nNOS activity remains virtually unchanged. Thus, iNOS-deficient mice and not lacking nNOS are protected.
